Pocket diapers are for someone who wants an easy transition from disposables to cloth. They are fitted diapers with a waterproof outer layer, and they have a pocket in the back(or front) for an insert. The insert is the actual absorbent part of the diaper. The inside fabric allows wetness to go through to the insert while keeping baby dry, and also catches the solids.
